Ensuring Public Trust through Excellence in Pharmacy Practice

Welcome to the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia, the regulatory body responsible for ensuring the safe and effective practice of pharmacy in the province. Established in 1891, the College has a long-standing history of protecting the public by ensuring that pharmacists and pharmacy technicians meet the highest standards of education, competence, and professional conduct.

At the College, we believe that Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-Racism are essential to providing high-quality care to all patients. We are committed to dismantling Indigenous-specific racism within BC's health system and have developed an Indigenous Cultural Safety, Humility, and Anti-Racism Practice Standard that sets clear expectations for BC health professionals on the provision of culturally safe and anti-racist care for Indigenous patients and clients.

Leadership Team

The College is led by a dedicated team of professionals who bring a diverse range of skills, experience, and perspectives to the organization. Our leadership team is responsible for overseeing the College's operations, setting strategic direction, and ensuring that the College fulfills its mandate to protect the public.

Board Members

The College's Board is comprised of elected and appointed members who are responsible for setting policy, making regulatory decisions, and providing strategic direction for the organization. Our Board members are drawn from a variety of backgrounds, including pharmacy practice, academia, and public service, and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.

Committees

The College has a number of committees that are responsible for various aspects of the organization's work. These committees are made up of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and public members, and provide advice and guidance to the Board and staff on matters such as registration, complaints, and practice standards.

Registration

The College is responsible for registering pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in BC. We have strict requirements for entry to practice, including education, examination, and language proficiency. Once registered, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians must meet ongoing professional development and competence requirements to maintain their registration.

We offer a variety of registration options, including new registration, registration renewal, and registration reinstatement. We also provide resources and guidance for pharmacy professionals on issues such as criminal record checks, jurisprudence exams, name changes, and letters of standing.

Pharmacy Licensure

The College is also responsible for licensing pharmacies in BC. We have strict requirements for pharmacy licensure, including staffing, facilities, equipment, and policies and procedures. We offer a variety of licensure options, including community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, pharmacy education site, community telepharmacy, and hospital pharmacy satellite.

We provide resources and guidance for pharmacy owners and operators on issues such as pharmacy licence renewal, reinstatement, and changes, including changes of direct owner, indirect owner, manager, and authorized representative.

eServices

The College offers a variety of online services, including registration and licensure applications, renewals, and reinstatements, as well as criminal record checks, jurisprudence exams, and letters of standing. Our eServices platform is secure, user-friendly, and designed to make it easier for pharmacy professionals and pharmacy owners to interact with the College.

Annual General Meeting

The College holds an annual general meeting in the fall of each year, open to all registrants and members of the public. The meeting provides an opportunity for stakeholders to learn about the College's activities and initiatives, ask questions, and provide feedback.

Strategic Plan and Annual Reports

The College develops a strategic plan every five years to guide its work over the next five years. The plan sets out the College's vision, mission, values, strategic directions, and goals. The College also publishes annual reports, which provide an overview of the College's activities and achievements over the past year.
