Heartwood Community Cafe

Heartwood Community Cafe is a social justice hub and community restaurant located in the heart of Mount Pleasant neighborhood in Vancouver, BC, on the unceded Coast Salish Territories. Our story began with Rhizome Cafe, a social justice hub and community space that was created to be a shared living room, a safe(r) space, and a support space for social justice work. For eight wonderful years, Rhizome Cafe was the glue for many social activist communities.

Our Vision

At Heartwood Community Cafe, our vision is to create a community that nourishes the spirit of social justice and liberation. We believe that everyone should be welcome at the table and that collaboration is key to full bellies and full hearts. We work towards an accessible and welcoming social hub defined by our community, which means building and strengthening relationships with the Heartwood Community and the broader Mount Pleasant neighborhood. We strive to be a space where people from diverse backgrounds come together to share meals, socialize, and build connections.
