Inspiring Creativity and Community through Art

The Godfrey Dean Art Gallery is a vibrant cultural institution located in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, on Treaty 4 territory. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for engagement with the arts through exhibitions, workshops, classes, and events. Our mission is to support and encourage the appreciation of art for everyone, while providing educational and professional development opportunities for artists.

Our History

The Godfrey Dean Art Gallery was established following decades of work by the Yorkton Arts Council, who organized visual art exhibitions at various locations in Yorkton since the 1960s. With the construction of the Godfrey Dean Cultural Centre in 1981, two galleries and office space were built on the second floor, adjacent to the historic Land Titles Building. Through the 1990s the galleries were managed by the Yorkton Arts Council, its volunteer board, visual arts committee, and part-time staff. In 2003, the newly-incorporated Godfrey Dean Art Gallery assumed responsibility for exhibition and education programming.

Our Team

Our team is comprised of passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to bringing the best artistic experiences to our community. Our Artistic Director, Doreen Girard, and Manager, Kelly Litzenberger, work tirelessly to curate and promote the work of local and national artists. Our Bookkeeper, Sabrina Nagy, ensures the smooth operation of our finances, while our Board of Directors provides strategic guidance and oversight.

Our Services

We offer a wide range of services, including art exhibitions, workshops, classes, and events. Our exhibitions feature the work of local, national, and international artists, showcasing a diverse range of styles and mediums. Our workshops and classes are designed to inspire creativity and skill-building, and are suitable for artists of all levels. We also host events, such as artist talks, demonstrations, and receptions, which provide opportunities for socializing and networking.

Our Community

We are proud to be a part of the Yorkton community, and we are committed to reflecting the creative diversity of our region. We believe that art has the power to bring people together, to inspire and to educate. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, where everyone can feel comfortable and engaged.
