Empowering Performers to Reach their Full Potential
The Centre for Performance Psychology is a treatment centre dedicated to helping individuals reach their maximum potential when engaging in the art of performance. We believe that specific focused and effortful training improves performance quality, and that expert performance is not primarily a function of innate abilities or talents. Our team of experienced registered psychologists and experts in performance psychology work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including athletes, performing artists, entrepreneurs, medical and legal professionals, teachers, and business owners, to name a few, who seek to experience mastery and higher purpose in all that they set out to do.
What is Performance Psychology?
Performance psychology is a branch of psychology that focuses on the factors that facilitate optimal performance of individuals, teams, and groups. Our experts seek to understand the identification, development, and execution of the mental and emotional knowledge, skills, and abilities required for excellence in performance. We study the obstacles to optimal performance and help individuals overcome them.
Services
The Centre for Performance Psychology offers a range of services to help individuals take their performance to the next level. Our services include:
Performance Enhancement
Our clients work one-on-one with our registered psychologists to develop and hone skills for enhancing or restoring performance excellence. We address a wide range of professional issues, such as career path and goals, meeting challenges of the profession, enhancing creative and artistic expression, overcoming personal and professional barriers to training and performance, and developing the intra- and interpersonal skills necessary for professional success.
Professional Coaching
We offer individual or group coaching to professionals seeking a specialized focus on particular projects or endeavors in the arts, athletics, business, teaching, and health or legal professions. We also provide career coaching to individuals who have decided to retire from performance and are seeking new vocational challenges consistent with their interests and abilities. As part of the process, we offer psycho-vocational assessments.
Individual Psychotherapy
Our registered psychologists specialize in individual psychotherapy for individuals seeking to address issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, creative blocks, self-esteem, and relationship difficulties. We also offer EMDR treatment for performance enhancement.
Group Psychotherapy
We believe that group therapy offers invaluable rewards to performers who seek to share and learn from the experience of like-minded colleagues. Our group therapy sessions are limited to eight participants who are able to commit to weekly one-and-a-half hours of therapy.
Workshops
Our centre runs workshops to professionals from all career stages seeking to develop or enhance their knowledge and understanding of their various areas of interest. Our experts present relevant information drawn from the psychological literature and research, as well as insights from successful professionals.
Our Experts
Our experts include Dr. Shulamit Mor, a concert pianist turned psychologist who has published research and presented internationally on topics related to the performing arts. Dr. Mor is also a registered psychologist and supervisor of clinical graduate students at York University. Our second expert is Jodi Basch, a registered psychotherapist with a special interest in working with college and university students, health care workers, first responders, and individuals who have suffered a workplace injury or are experiencing workplace difficulties.
