Our Veterinarians

At Central Nova Animal Hospital, we have a diverse team of skilled veterinarians, each dedicated to providing the best possible medical care to your pets. Our team consists of Dr. Jennifer McKay, Dr. Ed Macmillan, Dr. Kim Babineau, Dr. Lane Yuill, Dr. Kayla Collins, Dr. Candace Zwicker, Dr. Troye MacPherson, and Dr. Dove Mitton.

Dr. Kayla Collins

Dr. Kayla Collins hails from the small town of Lewisporte, Newfoundland, where she grew up with a younger sister and brother. Kayla completed a Chemistry Degree at Memorial University and, while there, worked at an animal shelter and a medical research laboratory. Her passion for veterinary medicine led her to the Atlantic Veterinary College, where she graduated in 2013. Dr. Collins joined our team temporarily to cover a maternity leave but has since become a permanent and beloved member of our staff.

Dr. Collins' family includes her partner, Derrick, his son, and their daughter, as well as several pets - two snakes, two cats, a dog, and a Leopard Gecko. Outside of work, she enjoys volunteering with the Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and spending time with her family.

Dr. Candace Zwicker

Dr. Candace Zwicker grew up in Chester Basin and has aspired to become a veterinarian since her early childhood. After completing the Animal Health Technology program at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, she pursued her Pre-Vet degree before graduating from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2010. Dr. Zwicker and her husband Patrick reside in Truro with their two young daughters, Addison and Elise, as well as two cats, Hali and Leah, and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Brisket.

Dr. Zwicker worked in the Halifax area after graduation and is delighted to be back in Truro, joining our team at Central Nova Animal Hospital. She is passionate about all aspects of small animal medicine, including pocket and exotic pets. When not at work, Dr. Zwicker enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family, taking part in outdoor activities such as swimming, skating, and exploring Victoria Park. During the summer months, she spends as much time as possible at the beach or camping with her loved ones.

Dr. Kim Babineau

Dr. Kim Babineau grew up in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, on her parent's blueberry farm. After completing her undergraduate degree at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, she pursued her veterinary degree at the Atlantic Veterinary College, graduating in 2011. Dr. Babineau worked in a mixed animal practice in New Glasgow before joining our team at Central Nova Animal Hospital in 2015. She has a special interest in small animal medicine and surgery, particularly in exotic species.

Dr. Babineau's family includes her husband, Dan, and their two sons, Joshua and Caleb. Together, they share their home with numerous pets, such as dogs, cats, birds, lizards, and even a hedgehog. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, camping, and participating in various outdoor activities with her family.
