Established in 1958, Omar Aviation Ltd. has been providing quality service for over 50 years in the field of aviation maintenance and repair. Our seaplane base, located on Whitewater Lake in Azilda, Ontario, offers a range of services to our clients. With our designator NC5, we are easily found on the VNC Sault Ste. Marie map, and provide parking, docking, and all fuel facilities. We are open from 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday.

Meet Thurston "Rusty" Blakey

Thurston "Rusty" Blakey (1911~1986) was one of the North's true pioneers in aviation. With unsurpassed bush flying skills, Rusty was known for his friendliness and caring throughout the North. His love for flying began at the docks of Austin Airways, where he learned to fly and received his commercial pilot's license in 1938. He flew countless flights for cartographers, aerial photographers, delivered equipment and men to numerous mines throughout the north, and delivered mail and perishable food to natives. Rusty was the first pilot in the world to drop dry ice crystals, revolutionizing forest fire-fighting methods. He transported countless sick and injured passengers to hospitals for life-saving treatment, even delivering a baby on board one of his flights. Rusty's contribution to flying earned recognition throughout the country, receiving many awards.
