Sunset Cove Resort was founded in 2007 by Mike and Erin Gate, who began with a small airplane and minnow traps to supply live bait for anglers. Over the years, we expanded our operations to include Gate's Bait retail store in 2010 and acquired the resort in 2012. Our family-run business combines decades of local fishing expertise with modern amenities to create a unique outdoor experience. We specialize in guided fishing trips on Lake of the Woods, boat rentals, and premium cabin accommodations. Our team maintains 400 square miles of bait grounds and offers wild game processing services.

The resort features 250 feet of new docks, a lakeside dock house, and seven fully equipped cabins with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and kitchen facilities. We host weekly fish fries and provide complimentary recreational equipment like kayaks and paddle boats. Our flat landscape ensures easy lake access, and our location serves as a hub for both summer fishing and winter snowmobiling adventures. Guided Fishing Trips
Our professional guides with 30+ years of local experience offer full-day fishing excursions on Lake of the Woods. Trips include boat, tackle, bait, shore lunch, and expert instruction for catching trophy muskie, walleye, and northern pike. Ideal for all skill levels from beginners to experienced anglers.
Cabin Rentals
Seven modernized cabins with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and satellite TV sleep 2-14 guests. Each includes kitchen facilities, propane BBQs, and private bathrooms. Three cabins accommodate wheelchair users with modified layouts and lakefront access.
Boat Rentals
Rent premium fishing boats from 18' Crestliners to Lund Pro V guide boats with 250 HP motors. All rentals include live wells, fish finders, and safety equipment. Pontoon options available for leisurely lake exploration with 45 HP Honda motors.
Ice Fishing
Six heated fish houses available on Lake of the Woods ice roads for walleye and crappie fishing. We provide snowmobile transportation to trout lakes and maintain winterized cabins for up to 14 guests during snowmobiling season.
Bait & Tackle Sales
Our retail store stocks premium live bait (4,200 dozen minnows and 1,200 lbs leeches), tackle, and sporting goods. We offer custom wild game processing and homemade sausage making services using your catch.

Do you provide fishing equipment for guests?
Our guided trips include all necessary tackle, bait, and equipment. Boat rentals include life jackets, fish finders, and trolling motors.
Are the cabins equipped with kitchen facilities?
All seven cabins have full kitchens with microwave, stove, refrigerator, and cookware (except Cabin #2 with kitchenette).
What winter activities are available?
We offer ice fishing with six fish houses, snowmobiling on trails adjacent to the resort, and winterized cabin rentals for up to 14 guests.
