Your journey to well-being starts here, supported by our experts.

Durham Mental Health Services (DMHS) is a charitable non-profit organization that has been providing support and services to individuals and families living with mental health concerns for over three decades. Established in 1987, DMHS began as a coalition of parishioners at Whitby All Saint's Anglican Church who recognized the need for safe and affordable housing for those suffering from severe mental health issues. Today, DMHS has grown into an agency with over a hundred employees, offering a range of mental health services across various locations in the Durham Region.

At DMHS, we work in partnership with our clients, providing person-centered and individualized services that are sensitive to their unique needs. Our team of dedicated professionals is committed to delivering high-quality support and care, ensuring that our clients receive the help they need to manage their mental health concerns and improve their overall well-being.

Our Services

At DMHS, we offer a wide range of services that are designed to meet the diverse needs of our clients. Our services include:

Crisis Response

Our crisis services are free, confidential, and available to anyone over the age of 16. We offer telephone support, community visits, and follow-up support, including linkage and referral to other community resources. Our C.A.L.L. (Crisis-Access-Linkage-Line) is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and can be reached at 905-666-0483 (local) or 1-800-742-1890 (toll-free).

Residential Programs

At DMHS, we offer a range of housing options for people with serious mental health issues who wish to live in the community. Our housing programs are designed to provide a safe and supportive environment where clients can progress towards greater independence and recovery.

Community Support Program

Our community-based support program provides assistance to individuals who require support in their daily lives. We offer a range of services, including case management, counseling, and rehabilitation, to help our clients achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being.

Justice Initiatives

Our justice initiatives provide a variety of programs that redirect people with mental health concerns away from the criminal justice system and towards the support and care they need. We offer specialized services for individuals who are involved in the justice system, including mental health safe beds and court diversion programs.

Family Support

Our family support program offers support to the family members and loved ones of individuals living with mental health concerns. We provide education, counseling, and resources to help families navigate the challenges of supporting a loved one with mental health concerns.

Peer Support

At DMHS, we believe that individuals with lived experience of mental illness can provide valuable support and guidance to others who are going through similar experiences. We offer a peer support program that connects individuals with lived experience with those who are seeking support and guidance.

Seniors Program

Our seniors program is a comprehensive support program that provides specialized services for older adults living with mental health concerns. We offer a range of services, including assessment, counseling, and rehabilitation, to help older adults maintain their independence and improve their overall well-being.

At DMHS, we are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of the individuals and families we serve. We are dedicated to providing high-quality support and care, and we are committed to promoting mental health awareness and reducing the stigma associated with mental illness.
