Company History
- 1950s: Kilmer Van Nostrand ("KVN") was acquired by the Tanenbaum family.
- 1960s: KVN diversified its operations to become a construction company and ready-mixed concrete producer serving the Toronto area.
- 1970s: KVN evolved into a general contractor, executing major civil works projects. Notably, the company constructed portions of subway systems in Toronto, Atlanta, and Caracas. During this time, KVN also acquired the Warren Paving and Materials Group, "Warren".
- 1980s: KVN began private equity investing for its own account in electronics manufacturing and media properties. Additionally, Warren was developed into the largest national asphalt and aggregates platform.
- 1990s: KVN started investing in the Toronto Maple Leafs and led the initiative to acquire the Toronto Raptors and Air Canada Centre, forming Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. Concurrently, equity investing was formalized through Kilmer Capital Partners ("KCP").
- 2000s: In December 2000, Warren merged with Lafarge NA, making KVN its second-largest shareholder. KCP made investments in Vansco, Give & Go, McGregor, Coalision, and Altasciences. Moreover, Kilmer Brownfield real estate group and Kilmer Developments were launched.
- 2010s: Kilmer Group made investments in Compact Power, Atelka, Chaleur, Five Guys, Blaze Pizza, and Coca-Cola Bottling. The company also focused on Infrastructure & Real Estate developments, including Prince Rupert, Onroute, Pan Am Village, Billy Bishop Airport, Canary District, West Don Lands, and Brightwater at Port Credit.
- 2020s: Kilmer Group continues its focus on three primary verticals: 1. Sports & Entertainment; 2. Canadian Enterprise (Coca-Cola Bottling and Kilmer Forestry); 3. Real Estate & Infrastructure. The company has surpassed the milestone of 10,000 homes completed or in progress.
