Creating lasting tributes to celebrate life
The International Music Academy was founded in 1996 and has since established itself as a leading institution in private music education in York Region. We take pride in our numerous awards and recognitions, including the Gold medal for teaching excellence from the Royal Conservatory of Music, the Consumers' Choice Award for business excellence, the York Region Character Community Award, and the Markham Board of Trade nomination award.
At the International Music Academy, we believe that music education is a valuable asset that can have a profound impact on a child's emotional and intellectual growth. Learning music can foster a sense of pride and accomplishment, develop self-confidence and self-esteem, and enhance problem-solving skills, coordination, self-expression, memory, and concentration. Moreover, research has shown that music education is positively associated with intelligence and academic abilities. Our mission is to provide students with a comprehensive music education that goes beyond just playing an instrument or singing. We strive to instill a lifelong appreciation and passion for music in our students.
Our Approach to Music Education
We understand that every student learns differently, and it's essential to cater to their unique learning style. Our experienced teachers use a holistic approach to teaching, taking into account the visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, and intellectual learning styles of each student. We offer a complimentary initial assessment to determine a student's learning style, basic motor and auditory skills, and create a personalized program tailored to their individual goals and objectives. This approach has enabled us to achieve an impressive 89% student retention rate over a three-year period.
Our Programs and Courses
We offer a wide range of programs and courses suitable for all ages, levels, and styles, from classical music and opera to Broadway and operetta, jazz and blues, pop and rock, and country. Our experienced teachers, who hold Master's degrees in Music and have a minimum of 15 years of teaching experience, provide instruction in multiple languages, including French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, and Bulgarian. We also prepare students for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, university auditions, festivals, and competitions.
