Transform Your Living Space with Our Expertise!

Welcome to Silver Maple Campground, a family-owned and operated campground nestled in the picturesque town of Nairn Centre, Ontario, Canada. Our campground has a rich history dating back to the 1950s, and we are proud to continue the legacy of its founders while offering modern amenities and services to our guests.

Our History

The story of Silver Maple Campground began in the 1800s when the land was a beautiful lakeside spot with towering white pine trees. Over the years, the land was owned by various families and businesses, including a logging firm that clear-cut the land and a Finnish family that established a small farm. In 1928, the famous Canadian painter Franklin Carmichael stayed with the family and was inspired by the beauty of the lake. He rendered it in paint, and this historic event marked the beginning of the lake's connection to the artistic community.

In 1953, a Hungarian hitchhiker named George Nagy stopped at the farm and fell in love with the place. He eventually bought the land and began to develop the campground, building a road and moving the farmhouse to its current location. George worked tirelessly to create the campground, digging the foundation and laying the groundwork for what would become a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Over the years, the campground continued to flourish under George's ownership, with upgrades and expansions to ensure the campsite remained modern and welcoming. Unfortunately, by the 1990s, the campground required significant renovations, which George, then 80 years old, was no longer able to maintain himself. In 2005, the campground was sold, and we changed the name to Silver Maple, aiming to restore the campground to its former glory.
