Empowering Young Players, One Skate at a Time
Whitemud West Hockey Association (WWHA) is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Edmonton community for many years. Our mission is to provide a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for children to learn and enjoy the sport of hockey. We are proud to be a part of the hockey community in Alberta and are committed to promoting the development of our young players both on and off the ice.
Programs and Services
WWHA offers a range of programs and services for children of all ages and skill levels. Our programs include:
- Initiation Programs: These programs are designed for children aged 5-6 who are new to the sport of hockey. We offer three levels of initiation programs: Discovery, Junior, and Senior Timbits. These programs focus on developing basic skating and puck-handling skills, as well as teaching children about the rules and etiquette of the game.
- U7 Program: This program is for children aged 7 who have completed the initiation program. The U7 program focuses on further developing skating and puck-handling skills, as well as introducing children to team play and strategy.
- U11 Program: This program is for children aged 10-11 who have completed the U7 program. The U11 program focuses on advanced skating and puck-handling skills, as well as introducing children to more complex team strategies and tactics.
- U13 AA Program: This program is for children aged 12-13 who have demonstrated advanced skills and a strong commitment to the sport. The U13 AA program focuses on high-level competition and advanced skill development.
- Goalie Equipment Rental: WWHA offers a goalie equipment rental program for children who are interested in trying out the position of goalie.
- Financial Assistance: WWHA is committed to making hockey accessible to all children, regardless of their financial situation. We offer financial assistance through partnerships with organizations such as Sport Central, KidSport, JumpStart, and the Mother Theresa Fund.
Coaching and Volunteer Opportunities
WWHA is run by a dedicated team of volunteers, including coaches, managers, and board members. We offer a variety of training and development opportunities for our volunteers, including Respect in Sport training, coaching clinics, and mentorship programs. We are always looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our team and help us provide the best possible experience for our players.
Governance and Policies
WWHA is governed by a set of bylaws and policies that are designed to ensure the safety, fairness, and integrity of our programs and activities. These include our Respect in Sport policy, maltreatment, bullying, and harassment policy, and incident complaint form. We take these issues very seriously and are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all members of our association.
Conclusion
WWHA is more than just a hockey association - we are a community of families, volunteers, and players who share a passion for the sport of hockey. We are committed to providing the best possible experience for our players, and to helping them develop the skills and values that will serve them well both on and off the ice. Thank you for considering Whitemud West Hockey Association for your child's hockey needs.
Accommodation Issues
Kenny Dickie shares a disappointing experience with the organization. He expresses frustration with the staff's unwillingness to accommodate his daughter's request to play with her friend, citing the "1 request per child policy". This inflexibility has led him to decide that his daughter's hockey career with the organization will come to an end.
Exceptional Staff
On the other hand, Lee Kinasewich had a remarkable experience with the staff. He praises the office ladies, who he describes as "amazing" and "go above and beyond" to ensure his success as a manager and coach. Lee highlights their exceptional resourcefulness and friendly demeanor, making them a valuable asset to the organization.
