At Edmonton Hospital Workers Child Care Society, we are dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and nurturing community for children to learn and grow as confident, competent, and caring individuals. Our unique licensed Early Learning and Child Care program, located within the Glenrose Hospital, offers a comprehensive and stimulating environment for children aged 10 months to 6 years.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a high-quality early learning experience that fosters the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of each child. We believe in advocating for the rights of all children as persons deserving of dignity and respect, supporting parents as primary caregivers, and serving the community that supports us.
Our Program
Our early learning centre provides care for 27 children, with 12 full-time enrolments in our toddler room (10 months - 2.5 years) and 15 in our preschool room (2.5 - 6 years). We also offer limited short-term contingency care spaces for hospital staff or patient families. Our program is inspired by the philosophies and practises of the Reggio Emilia Approach and the work and philosophy of Magda Gerber. Our commitment to recognizing and respecting the individual strengths and interests of each child has earned us the 2014 Child Development Professional Awards of Excellence in the Team category.
Our Unique Features
Having our Early Learning centre located within the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital offers a unique opportunity for children to connect with the hospital community and benefit from the expertise of hospital staff. Our dedicated team of educators and child care professionals work closely with parents and the hospital community to provide a seamless and supportive care environment.
Our History
The Edmonton Hospital Workers Child Care Society was incorporated as a non-profit organization in October 1981. Since its inception, our volunteer board has been dedicated to supporting the needs of hospital employees and their children. We have evolved over the years to meet the changing needs of our community, including the introduction of extended hours care funded by the Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Pilot program.
