Interlocking Driveways
At NorthStead Landscaping, we specialize in constructing interlock driveways, utilizing innovative techniques to ensure a long-lasting and durable finished product. Proper base preparation is crucial for a long-lasting interlock driveway, a process that NorthStead excels in through our innovative custom screed system.
Our method of grading the entire driveway as a whole using specialized screed poles ensures optimal slope for water runoff, thereby preventing water pooling issues near your home. In contrast, outdated approaches used by some local companies, such as using a piece of lumber to grade in sections, may result in uneven slope over the entirety of your driveway.
The use of proper aggregates in the sub-base is vital for supporting the weight of your vehicles and ensuring the best compaction. We use larger aggregate with 3" chunks of stone, as opposed to our competitors' 1/2" stone. For the bedding layer just before laying bricks, it is essential to know that more than 1.25" is too much. If a contractor uses more than 1.25" of the finer bedding material, they risk instability in the brick, leading to extreme tire ruts. We also use a 1/4" inch chipped aggregate for our bedding material, as opposed to our competitors' "stonedust".
Additionally, it is crucial to extend the base far enough past the edge of the driveway. This not only allows for proper nailing of the paver edging alongside the brick but also prevents premature deterioration caused by excessive rutting.
