Our History

Mertion Excavating Ltd. is a third-generation, family-run business that has been providing exceptional earth moving services to the Okanagan Valley for over 50 years. Our journey began in 1957 when Tony Mertion founded the company with a small blade caterpillar and a cable-operated excavator called the Quickway. In 1973, Ed Mertion took over the reins from his father and steadily grew the business, expanding our equipment and clientele over the years. Today, under the leadership of Klayton Mertion, we continue to operate from our main office in Vernon, serving clients throughout the Okanagan Valley.

• Retaining Walls: We build rock walls or concrete block walls for esthetic landscape purposes or as retaining walls, and prepare your site for landscaping with sand, topsoil, and gravel products.

• Sand and Gravel Products: We have several dump trucks with pup trailers to move loads of dirt, rock, and gravel, and can provide many varieties of aggregate products and screened topsoil for all your project needs.
