College-Massage Therapists-BC

The College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC) is a newly formed regulatory body that amalgamates the regulation of professional Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, Naturopathic Physicians, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists in the province of British Columbia. Our primary mandate is to ensure that these health professionals have the competencies needed to practice and adhere to the standards required for safe and ethical care. This amalgamation is part of the Ministry of Health's multi-year initiative to modernize BC's health profession regulatory framework, aiming to provide the public and professionals with a central point of contact, enhanced public protection, increased efficiency, and effectiveness with greater access to resources and expertise.

As of June 28, 2024, we have centralized the information and resources relevant to professional applicants, registrants, and annual renewals from the four professional colleges into our multi-profession CCHPBC website. This website serves as the primary resource and point of contact for the former College of Chiropractors of BC (CCBC), College of Massage Therapists of BC (CMTBC), College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners & Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA), and the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia (CNPBC).

Our Regulatory Role

Our regulatory role is multifaceted, and our primary oversight includes regulating the practice of health and care professionals to ensure that they meet standards of competence and ethical conduct. This regulation helps protect the public by ensuring that only qualified individuals practice in these fields. We grant licenses to individuals who meet the necessary qualifications and standards to practice in their respective professions, which involves assessing their education, training, and credentials.

We also develop and enforce standards of practice to ensure that professionals maintain competency throughout their careers. This may involve continuing education requirements, professional development, and adherence to ethical guidelines. Additionally, we investigate complaints or concerns raised against our registrants regarding their professional conduct or competence, and take appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary to protect the public interest.

Services Offered

At the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC, we offer a range of services to the public, professionals, and applicants/registrants. For the public, we provide license verification, formal complaints and discipline processes, and public notifications. We also educate the public about the roles and responsibilities of health and care professionals, as well as their rights as consumers of healthcare services.

For professionals, we offer resources and support to help them maintain their competencies and stay up-to-date with industry developments. We also provide guidelines and standards of practice to ensure that professionals adhere to ethical conduct and maintain the highest standards of care.

For applicants and registrants, we provide information and resources on the registration and licensing process, as well as continuing education requirements and professional development opportunities. We also offer guidance and support to help them navigate the regulatory process and maintain their credentials.
