The Alberta Lawyers' Assistance Society (Assist) is an organization dedicated to helping Alberta lawyers, articling students, law students, and their families. Established in 1985, Assist has been providing confidential and non-judgmental assistance to members of the legal profession for over three decades. Our mission is to enhance the immediate and long-term well-being of those we serve through confidential and psychological assistance, peer support, education, and community.

Our Story
Assist was founded in 1985 by a group of lawyers who recognized the need for confidential support within the legal profession. Initially known as Lawyers Helping Lawyers, the organization was created to provide a safe and supportive space for lawyers dealing with mental health and substance use issues. Over the years, Assist has expanded its offerings to include a range of programs and services designed to support the mental health and well-being of all members of the legal profession.
Our People
Assist's team is made up of highly trained professionals who are dedicated to providing confidential and non-judgmental assistance. Our staff includes psychologists, social workers, and peer support workers, all of whom are committed to helping you find the resources you need to thrive.
Our Board
Assist's Board of Directors is composed of lawyers and other professionals who are committed to supporting the well-being of the legal profession. The Board provides strategic direction and oversight for the organization, ensuring that Assist continues to meet the needs of those it serves.

Programs
Assist offers a range of programs and services designed to support the mental health and well-being of those we serve. These include:
- Professional Counselling Services: Our counselling services are designed to provide confidential and non-judgmental support for a wide range of mental health and well-being issues. Our team of psychologists and social workers are trained to provide evidence-based interventions that are tailored to your unique needs.
- Peer Support Program: Our peer support program connects you with a trained peer support worker who has experience in the legal profession. Peer support workers provide confidential and non-judgmental support, as well as practical guidance and resources.
- Education and Awareness: Assist is committed to promoting education and awareness around mental health and well-being issues within the legal profession. We offer a range of resources, including online courses, webinars, and blog posts.
- Community: Assist believes that connection and community are essential for mental health and well-being. We foster community within the legal profession by responding to needs that arise and building connections between individuals.
