Respect the freedom of one's self
Biidaaban Healing Lodge is a residential and community-based programming facility that offers high-quality treatment to the Aboriginal population in the Robinson-Superior Area. Located in the Ojibways of Pic River First Nation on the beautiful shores of Lake Superior, we are dedicated to providing a secure, respectful, and self-expressive environment for our clients. Pic River is approximately a three-hour drive east of Thunder Bay and three and a half hours west of Sault Ste. Marie on Hwy 17.
Since the early 1980s, the Biidaaban Healing Lodge has recognized the need for alcoholism treatment facilities that acknowledge the unique approaches to life of the First Nations communities. Our mission is to ensure physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellness among Aboriginal People, and we work collectively with all Robinson-Superior Treaty Nations to facilitate individual recovery, family healing, and community rehabilitation.
We believe in the power of communities to contribute to the development of our programs and ensure that First Nations People have access to relevant information with respect to the Biidaaban Healing Lodge. Where possible, our staff is of First Nations background, so our clients can be serviced by their own people. We recognize that healing the whole self requires taking into account the families and the communities of the client, and therefore, provisions of aftercare services and support programs at the community level are essential.
Our Programs
At Biidaaban Healing Lodge, we offer a variety of programs designed to cater to the unique needs of our clients. These programs include:
- Anger Solutions Program: This program educates and empowers participants to make the right choices about their anger. Our clients will learn about the underlying causes of their anger and develop healthy coping mechanisms to deal with their emotions.
- Grief & Abandonment Program: This ten-day program gives clients a comprehensive understanding of the stages and cycles of grief. Our clients will learn how to cope with their loss and find healthy ways to move forward in their lives.
- Sexual Abuse Survivors Program: This program provides a safe, supportive environment in which clients will examine the impact of sexual abuse. Our clients will learn about the long-term effects of sexual abuse and develop healthy coping strategies to deal with their emotions.
- Outreach Program: Biidaaban Healing Lodge provides training, educational seminars, workshops, mobile treatment programs, and traditional hands-on workshops for our clients in the Robinson-Superior Area.
In addition to these programs, we also offer a new program called Reconnecting To Spirit. This program has a primary focus of Mino Bimaadiziwin "The Good Life". Participants will gain a deeper understanding and connection with themselves, traditions, cultural knowledge, and the land.
Our History
In 1992, Pic River submitted a proposal on behalf of the Robinson-Superior Area to target "Secondary Problems." This proposal addressed seven areas: Compulsive Overeating, Self-Parenting, Family Violence, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Sexual Abuse, and Unresolved Anger stemming from Childhood Issues. Since then, the Biidaaban Healing Lodge has been dedicated to providing high-quality treatment for the Aboriginal population in the Robinson-Superior Area.
