Lingan Golf Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in existence in Canada, with a strong history and tradition. Established in 1895, our club has been a haven for golf enthusiasts for over 125 years. We take pride in our rich heritage and continue to offer exceptional golfing experiences to our members and guests.
Our History
The club has undergone significant transformations since its inception, moving from Victoria Park in Sydney to its current location in MacLean's Crossing in 1913. The original 9-hole layout was designed and constructed by Dominion, Nova Scotia native and Maritime Amateur Golf Champion Malcolm Martin. In 1922, the renowned golf course architect Stanley Thompson came to the area and redesigned the original 9-hole layout. The development of the second nine holes began in 1964 with C.E. (Robbie) Robinson as the architect. Our club has hosted numerous Canadian and Provincial golf championships, including the Nova Scotia Men's Amateur Championship in 2008.
Our Services
We offer a range of services to cater to the needs of our members and guests. Our championship golf course is meticulously maintained to provide a challenging yet enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels. In addition to our golf course, we have a practice range, putting and chipping greens, and a full-service pro shop on site. Club and power cart rentals are available for those who require them, although our course is very walkable and typically plays in under four hours.
Our professional staff, led by Jamie MacIntosh, offer a wide variety of lessons and group clinics to help improve your game. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced golfer, we have programs designed to meet your needs.
Dining and Social Events
Flavor 19, our contemporary restaurant and lounge, is open year-round to the general public. Our menu features a range of delicious dishes, premium cocktails, and mini desserts. Enjoy the luxury of our private dining room or take in some of the best East Coast Musicians in the main room. We are proud to have Flavor Fine Foods and Catering operating our food and beverage services.
We also host various social events throughout the year, including charity tournaments, corporate events, and weddings. Our facilities can accommodate groups of all sizes, making us the perfect venue for your next event.

Golfing at Lingan Golf Club and Resort
The Lingan Golf Club and Resort has received a variety of reviews, highlighting its excellent driving range, great restaurant, and patio for the 19th hole. The pro shop was noted to have left a little to be desired in terms of service, and some patrons mentioned the course being in great shape with breathtaking views on every hole. Staff were friendly and very helpful, making the atmosphere welcoming and personable.
Some patrons noted the convenience of the snack bar at hole number nine and a toilet at hole twelve, which made life easier. The course maintenance was described as courteous and unintrusive. Overall, Lingan Golf Club and Resort sets the bar high for all areas that every course on Cape Breton Island should strive for.
Amenities and Services
The course has two great practice greens and a pro-level driving range. The staff at Flavor 19 were noted for their great food and friendly service. The pro shop is fully stocked, and the staff are always friendly, professional, and willing to help. Lingan Golf Club and Resort offers excellent value for your money.
A few patrons noted that the greens were okay, but the layout was congested, and it was not the best the island has to offer for golf. However, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the course was in good condition for the time of year.
Food and Dining
The food at Flavor 19 was described as "killer good" with patrons enjoying dishes such as the Steak, Thai bowl, and the Root Beer pulled pork sandwich. The staff gave extra attention to meal preferences and provided a wonderful birthday experience for one patron. The restaurant has a great selection of vegan options, although it is the least favorite of the three Flavor locations.
Overall, Lingan Golf Club and Resort offers a fantastic experience with great amenities, services, and dining options.
