Celebrating together that every child matters
Canada Place Child Care Society (CPCCS) is a non-profit daycare that has been providing high-quality childcare in downtown Edmonton for over 35 years. We are committed to offering top-tier care and programming for our young learners, and we welcome families from all walks of life. While we prioritize spaces for children of Federal Government employees, we are inclusive and open to all families.
History
CPCCS opened its doors in 1988, the same year that the iconic Canada Place building was constructed in downtown Edmonton. We occupy a significant portion of the second floor and have the capacity to care for up to 80 children. Over the past two decades, we have established ourselves as one of the top non-profit daycares in Edmonton. Our long-serving Executive Director, Gillian Richards, brought stability and modernization to the daycare industry, improving policies and procedures for accreditation and licensing in Alberta. We take great pride in our long-term staff retention and our dedicated group of parent volunteers.
Upon Gillian's retirement, the Gillian Richards Endowment Fund was created to give back to children in our community. After Gillian's passing in 2017, the Gillian Richards Memorial Fund was established to continue raising money for children in the Edmonton community, preserving her legacy and the high standards she set.
Philosophy
At CPCCS, we believe that the environment serves as a child's third teacher. Our programming is grounded in the Reggio Emilia constructivist philosophy, which has demonstrated success in early childhood education for over 40 years. According to this approach, a child is strong, capable, competent, and full of potential. Children are viewed as researchers and co-learners alongside their educators, who serve as keen observers and recorders of each child's interests and needs.
We provide a rich, stimulating environment filled with books, objects, and materials that encourage children's unique communication styles before they can fluently speak. Additionally, we offer special programming such as French Language Classes, Music, and Yoga, which align with the notion that children come into the world with a hundred languages.
Staff
Our dedicated staff is committed to fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment for our children. We emphasize long-term retention, and our team members have extensive experience in early childhood education. Each staff member undergoes thorough background checks and adheres to our Parent Handbook and Parent Code of Conduct.
Facility
We are located on the second floor of the Canada Place building in downtown Edmonton and have the capacity to care for up to 80 children. Our spacious facility includes designated areas for different age groups, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for all.
