Since day one, Topmade has built products to last and was "built to last" as a company. Our philosophy has always been to build on our "in-house" capability. This has given us great strength and capabilities, including a 30,000 square foot facility in Calgary, which is capable of producing, repairing, and installing almost any kind of signage efficiently and professionally. Founded in 1979, Topmade has produced thousands of signs all over southern Alberta. There is virtually no commercial street around you where you will not see our workmanship - well-known landmarks, airports, hospitals, retail stores, LRT stations - we have done all kinds of jobs in every size, shape, and place. Over the years, we have worked very hard to keep good staff. Our 10 key department heads have been with us for over 10 years each. We also have many staff who have been with us well over 20 years. With such a longstanding employee base, we are a lot like a big family. The Topmade team also enjoys our corporate-sponsored sport of dragon boating, which an excellent team sport, considering that 20 - 22 people in a boat must paddle in perfect synchronization! Our Topmade Dragon Boat Club teams have over 200 members, have won numerous medals, and are very well known within the sport in Canada. Put simply, at Topmade we work hard and we play hard. We enjoy what we do, and we are very happy to assist you with your signage requirements using the latest manufacturing processes and the most seasoned personnel.
Our Processes
At Topmade, we are proud to offer a wide range of services, all under one roof. Our 30,000 square foot shop contains several unique departments to produce all kinds of signs. These include:
LED or Neon Lighting & Electrical
LED or Neon can be used to light all kinds of signs and sign boxes. LED is the most energy efficient form of signage lighting today, and we provide all colours and levels of brightness.
Welding and Metal Fabrication
Topmade has in-house technicians to weld and fabricate solid enclosures for illuminated or non-illuminated signs. We also have a channel-letter bending machine for precision letter bends.
Box & Sheet Metal Fabrication
Topmade's fabrication department customizes sheet metal and plastics to encase indoor or outdoor signage. With the latest in channel letter bending equipment, we make every size and shape, and our enclosures are electrically wired to all safety codes.
Spray Painting
Topmade has a fully equipped 30' x 18' x 14' fully ventilated spray booth to safely apply spray paint to all kinds of sign structures.
Digital Printing
Our Digital Printers (both flat bed and roll-to-roll) print 51" wide in a single piece, and can feed a variety of roll materials or solid sheet substrates. This allows us to apply full graphics to a variety of materials.
Canvas and Awning Fabrication
Our canvas sewing department is capable of constructing or re-skinning existing framing for awnings or canopies. Construction and repair of metal framing is handled by our Welding/Metal Fabrication Department. We also clean and refurbish awnings to apply new lettering or graphics.
Plastic Fabrication
Custom plastic bending, forming and fabrication was one of our first capabilities when Topmade was founded. We can use it to build containers or displays for any purpose in coloured or clear plastics and acrylics. We can include non-plastic, assembled components as well.
CNC Cutting & Engraving
Topmade has a CNC machine for cutting and engraving on plastics, metals, or wood. From the smallest, most precise graphics to largest engraved pieces, we can create nameplates, nametags, plaques or display boards, up to 4' x 8' in a single piece.
Vinyl Cutting
Vinyl lettering and graphics can be applied to all kinds of surfaces. We stock a huge variety of colours for signs, windows, doors, vehicles or displays. We also can also remove it (from old awnings or windows, for example), and apply/install it for you. Our vinyl plotters cut up to 51" wide.
Installation
At Topmade, we are fully set up to deliver and install signs of all sizes, heights and types. We have four loading bays, a fleet of high-reaching bucket trucks, and a crew of skilled installers to ensure your sign is aligned and installed correctly and safely, thus resisting weather and wind damage.
Quality of Work and Design
Some reviewers have praised Topmade Plastics for their exceptional quality of work and design. Keith Leprieur and Ken Doerksen both gave 5-star ratings, mentioning that their signs looked great and met their schedule needs. Rhiannon Evison also praised their work, stating that they did an excellent job on their three signs. The sales team was described as helpful and prompt, and the installation team was careful and efficient.
Customer Service
However, not all reviewers had a positive experience with Topmade Plastics' customer service. Gord Chin gave a 1-star rating, citing poor communication and customer service. He mentioned that it took forever to get a response to questions, and when he finally got his sign, the lacquer finishing was poorly done. Tyler Akerman also had a negative experience, stating that he needed to follow up multiple times to get a response. He mentioned that the communication side needs work.
Pricing and Quote Issues
One reviewer, Collective Craft Beer, had a mixed experience.
