Our Story

Hotel Bedford is a charming, family-run establishment that has been welcoming guests for over a century. With its rich history dating back to 1896, our hotel has been a staple of Goderich, Ontario, and the surrounding community. From its humble beginnings as the Albion Hotel to its current status as a beloved destination, Hotel Bedford has undergone numerous transformations, yet has maintained its unique charm and old-fashioned hospitality.

A Brief History

In 1895, a devastating fire destroyed the Albion Hotel, which was owned by John Bedford. Two years later, John Bedford had the hotel rebuilt on the same site, and it was renamed Hotel Bedford. The hotel remained in the Bedford family until John's passing in approximately 1935. Over the next 65 years, the hotel was owned and operated by various families, including the Litt/Curry/Lapaine families, until it was purchased by Ken and Kathleen Bowen in the spring of 2000. As a family-run business, Ken and Kathleen have continued to nurture the hotel's unique character and charm, ensuring that each guest feels like part of the family.

Our Accommodations

Hotel Bedford offers 35 cozy guest rooms, all located on the second and third floors. Each room has been completely renovated and features modern amenities, including individually controlled heat and air-conditioning, TV, and modern bath facilities. Guests can enjoy a continental breakfast, free parking, and complimentary WiFi.
