The Saskatchewan Karate Association (SKA) has dedicated itself to promoting traditional karate as both a martial art and competitive sport since its formation in 1977. Athletic Development Program
Our Athletic Development Program trains green belt and higher participants aged 14+ through specialized sessions in Saskatoon and Regina. Led by Sensei Mark Minarik, this September-May program develops competition skills for provincial, national, and international events. Out-of-town participants receive partial travel reimbursement through our car allowance program.
Provincial Tournaments
We organize two annual provincial tournaments in spring and fall, hosted by affiliated clubs across Saskatchewan. These events serve as qualifiers for national championships and provide competitive experience for athletes at all levels. Financial assistance may be available for selected competitors.
National Team Selection
Our national team selection process identifies top performers from provincial spring tournaments to represent Saskatchewan at Canadian National Karate Championships. Selected athletes may receive financial support for competition expenses based on our established criteria.
Seminars and Dan Gradings
We host provincial seminars featuring internationally respected instructors for technical development and dan (black belt) gradings. These events attract participants from across Canada and abroad, offering opportunities to learn from master instructors and advance martial arts proficiency.
Sport Accident Insurance
