Our History and Legacy
Our 1907 McKay Island Lighthouse is a significant piece of Canadian history, and we're proud to offer the only housekeeping lighthouse in Ontario that's accessible by car. This beautifully restored lighthouse has been meticulously maintained to preserve its original charm, while providing all the modern amenities our guests need to feel comfortable and at home. As you step into the lighthouse, you'll be transported back in time, surrounded by the nostalgic atmosphere of a bygone era.
Our Accommodations
We offer a range of fully equipped housekeeping cottages and the historic McKay Island Lighthouse, each designed to provide our guests with a unique and unforgettable experience. Our eight cozy waterfront cottages, located on French Island, feature open rafters and wood heat, and can accommodate from one to six guests. Each cottage has its own briquette barbecue, picnic table, bonfire pit, and Muskoka chairs, perfect for enjoying the beautiful scenery and tranquil atmosphere of the island. The lighthouse, on the other hand, offers a more rustic yet charming experience, ideal for those seeking a more intimate and secluded getaway.
Recreational Activities
At Bruce Bay Cottages & Lighthouse, we encourage our guests to fully immerse themselves in the natural beauty of our surroundings. Explore both islands on foot or by bicycle, and discover the scenic trails, abundant wildlife, and serene atmosphere of the area. Enjoy a range of outdoor activities, including paddling, boating, fly fishing, and fishing, or simply relax and take in the breathtaking views of Lake Huron. In the winter, experience the magic of snowshoeing, tobogganing, star gazing, and bonfires, or venture out onto the frozen lake for an unforgettable snowmobile adventure.
