Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver Featuring Zimbabwean Sculptures
Ukama Gallery opened its doors on Granville Island in February 2015, specializing in original stone sculpture from Zimbabwe. We represent over 200 emerging and world-renowned artists, collaborating with local partners to personally select each work of art. Our collection captures the diverse styles flourishing across Zimbabwe, from established artist communities to remote rural areas. We curate our sculpture collection to convey the significant contribution of Zimbabwean sculptors to modern art. Complementing these works are paintings and mixed media pieces from outstanding Canadian artists, creating a dialogue between tactile sculptures and vibrant visual art.The name 'Ukama' comes from a Shona word describing close family relationships, reflecting our mission to foster personal connections with African art. Our gallery emphasizes the profound spirituality and enduring impact of these artworks, as highlighted by Frank McEwan, the first director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, who noted their transformative power. We maintain transparency in our curation process and prioritize ethical partnerships with artists and local communities.
