Welcome to the Italian Bakery, a family-owned business that brings the authentic tastes and traditions of Calabria, Italy, right here to Barrie, ON. Our story begins with Vincenzo and Maria Fuda, who emigrated from southern Italy in 1953 and settled in Toronto, Canada, in 1957. With their unwavering determination, they established several retail outlets in the Toronto region and eventually expanded to Oro Medonte, opening "Fuda Foods" in 1967.
In 1971, Rocco Fuda married Rita, and together they started a family while continuing to work and grow the Fuda Foods business in Oro Medonte. After 21 years of hard work and raising five beautiful children, they decided to sell the business and move to Barrie, Ontario. Rooted in their strong traditional Mediterranean upbringing, Rocco and Rita opened the "Italian Bakery" in 1993, offering a wide variety of Italian culinary delicacies, family customary meals, and groceries reminiscent of their home in Calabria.
Today, the Italian Bakery proudly serves the Barrie community with authentic Italian cuisine, baked goods, ready-to-go frozen meals, catering services, and custom cakes and gift baskets. We invite you to experience the sights, smells, and tastes of Italy right here in our store.
