Learn Something New Every Day

At Taneda Karate Dojos, we are passionate about teaching the art of Chito ryu karate to individuals of all ages and skill levels. With a rich history dating back to 1981, our dojos have grown to become a prominent institution in the Okanagan Valley, with locations in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Penticton, and Summerland. Our instructors are dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where students can learn, grow, and thrive.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create a learning environment that encourages students to achieve high standards of personal excellence in all aspects of their lives. We strive to develop students with skill, etiquette, and compassion, and challenge them to search further in their self-development. Our goal is to train students to have a mindset that gives options to every situation in self-defense or life choices, and to use traditional karate to keep students balanced in an ever-changing society and teach respect and courtesy.

Our Services

We offer a wide range of classes and programs designed to meet the needs of individuals from beginners to advanced practitioners. Our classes focus on the basics of karate, including punching, blocking, kicking, and stances, as well as throws, takedowns, chokes, arm and wrist locks. We also provide opportunities for students to participate in local tournaments, where they can test their skills and compete against other martial artists. Additionally, our members have the ability to enter the BC Winter Games, earn school credits, and represent Canada on the world stage.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is centered around the principles of traditional karate, which emphasizes the development of the whole person - physical, mental, and emotional. We believe that karate is not just a physical activity, but a way of life that helps individuals build confidence, discipline, and self-awareness. Our instructors are committed to preserving the original Chito ryu karate style, as taught by Soke Sensei, and to continually train, study, and grow as teachers to deliver the best possible instruction to our students.

Our Legacy

Taneda Karate Dojos have a rich legacy of producing National and International Champions, and our instructors have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the sport of karate. Sensei Taneda has been inducted into the Central Okanagan Sport Hall of Fame, and our instructors continue to play a leading role in the development of karate in British Columbia and Canada.
