Serving the Public Interest
The Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador is a regulatory body dedicated to serving the public interest by promoting high standards of legal services and professional conduct. Authorized by Provincial Legislation, we are funded by lawyers' fees and governed by a team of Benchers, which includes both lawyer and public representatives. Our team, led by a full-time Executive Director and staff, works tirelessly to ensure that lawyers provide the highest quality of service to the public.
Our Services
We offer a wide range of services to the public, lawyers, and students. For the public, we provide resources to find a lawyer, file a complaint, and access public legal education and research. We also offer hearing notifications and FAQs to help individuals navigate the legal system. For lawyers and students, we offer admission to the profession, continuing professional development opportunities, practice resources, and lawyer wellness programs.
Our Mission
Our mission is to protect the public interest by establishing best practice standards, providing educational opportunities, supporting public access to legal information and advice, and encouraging and facilitating lawyers' participation in pro-bono legal clinics. We strive to ensure that lawyers are providing the highest quality of service to the public, and we are committed to making a positive impact in our community.
