Regulating Health Care Professionals for a Safer and Better Tomorrow
The College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC) is a newly established regulatory body that brings together the regulation of multiple health care professions in British Columbia. Our mission is to ensure that the public receives safe, ethical, and high-quality care from professionals who possess the competencies to deliver exceptional service. By uniting the regulation of Audiologists, Dietitians, Hearing Instrument Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Opticians, Optometrists, Physical Therapists, Psychologists, and Speech-Language Pathologists under one umbrella, we aim to centralize information, enhance public protection, and boost efficiency and effectiveness.
Our Regulatory Role
As a regulatory body, our primary goal is to protect the public by ensuring that health care professionals meet the highest standards of practice. We achieve this by setting and enforcing standards of practice, codes of conduct, and codes of ethics for our regulated professions. We also provide guidance and resources to our registrants, investigate complaints, and take disciplinary action when necessary.
Cultural Safety and Humility
At CHCPBC, we recognize the importance of cultural safety and humility in the delivery of health care services. We are committed to creating an environment that is respectful and inclusive of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. Our Cultural Safety and Humility Declaration is a testament to our commitment to addressing the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization and systemic racism on Indigenous peoples and other marginalized communities.
Our Board, Committees, and Staff
Our Board of Directors, committees, and staff are dedicated to ensuring that our regulatory framework is fair, effective, and responsive to the needs of the public and our registrants. Our team includes experts in health care regulation, governance, and administration, as well as representatives from each of the regulated professions.
