The most sought after and prized colour is the vivid, velvety blue, in medium to medium-dark tones. For a sapphire to be classified as true blue, its secondary colours must not account for more than 15% of the stone's overall colour. Sapphires that display secondary colours greater than 15% are classified as greenish-blue, purple-blue, and violet, and are seen as unique or fancy coloured stones.
