Serving the Public Since 1881

We are the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors, a professional, self-governing body that has been safeguarding the public interest and administering the land surveying profession in Manitoba since 1881. As the oldest land surveying association in Canada, we take pride in our rich history and our commitment to upholding the highest standards of practice and conduct in the field of land surveying. We operate under The Land Surveyors Act (Manitoba), which gives us the responsibility to regulate the practice of land surveying and protect the public. Our membership is made up of Manitoba Land Surveyors, who possess the legal authority and expertise to define the legal boundaries of a parcel of land, whether it is on the ground or on paper.

Our Mission

Our mission is to protect your rights to fair property ownership and orderly development by defending the accuracy and integrity of our land survey fabric. We strive to maintain the highest standards of practice and conduct in the field of land surveying, ensuring that our members are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide accurate and reliable services. Our work is essential in ensuring that the legal boundaries of properties are accurately determined, which is crucial in protecting property rights and preventing disputes.

Services Offered

At the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors, we offer a range of services designed to meet the needs of our members and the public. Here are some of the services we offer:

  • Protecting Your Property: Only a land surveyor can provide you with a legal document defining the boundaries of the property you own. This document, known as a legal survey, is essential in protecting your property rights and preventing disputes with your neighbors. Our members have the expertise and legal authority to perform legal surveys and ensure that your property boundaries are accurately defined.
  • Finding a Surveyor: We maintain the Annual Register of Land Surveyors who are licensed to practice in Manitoba. If you need to find a surveyor, we can help you find a qualified and experienced professional who can provide you with the services you need.
  • Understanding BLCs: A BLC, or a Best Land Corner, is a corner marking the boundaries of a parcel of land that has been established by a Manitoba Land Surveyor. BLCs are essential in accurately defining property boundaries, and our members can help you understand the importance of BLCs and how they can benefit you.
  • Property Development: If you are planning to develop your property, our members can help you with subdivision planning and ensure that your development plans meet the legal requirements and guidelines set out by the government. Our members have the expertise and knowledge necessary to guide you through the development process and ensure that your project is a success.
  • Careers in Land Surveying: If you are interested in a career in land surveying, we can help you understand the benefits of this little-known profession and provide you with the resources you need to get started. Land surveying is a rewarding and challenging field that offers a wide range of career opportunities.
