At True North Psychological Services, we are dedicated to helping individuals suffering from mental health issues. Our History

True North Psychological Services first opened its doors in Kentville, Nova Scotia in 2013 under the guidance of Dr. Mark Johnston. As a psychiatrist, Dr. Johnston believed in the importance of integrating mental health professionals and fostering a connection between psychology and psychiatry. Over the past 11 years, we have grown to 14 locations in four provinces - Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Saskatchewan - and continue to expand our services.

We recognize that everyone's journey is unique, and our approach is centered around providing a safe, supportive, and personalized environment for our clients. Our team of professionals uses a variety of therapeutic interventions, assessments, programs, neurofeedback, workshops, and counseling to address the complex needs of our clients.

A Message from Our CEO

I recall early in my psychiatry training, it became clear to me that while medications can be helpful in managing mental health, they rarely, if ever, "fix" problems. I began referring to antidepressants as "Tylenol for the Soul" because they can help alleviate symptoms, but they don't address the underlying issues. As a result, I sought out experienced mentors in psychotherapy to better understand the therapeutic approaches. Unfortunately, when I started my practice, I realized it would be challenging to continue offering psychotherapy to my patients. However, I continued to appreciate the importance of psychotherapy and would consistently recommend it to my patients.
