Our Team

At Breakwater Law, we're a diverse group of individuals who bring unique perspectives and experiences to the table. Our team includes:

• Jo McFetridge, Managing Lawyer: Raised overseas in Australia and Hong Kong, Jo is a proud former member of the Canadian Forces reserve and has served as a bridge officer on HMCS MALAHAT in Victoria. He is a creative problem-solver who is driven to deliver practical, timely advice.
• Jacqueline Flett, Associate Counsel: Raised across B.C., Jacqueline worked as a lender and financial advisor for a major bank before becoming a lawyer. She represents start-up and middle market companies across a range of industries and provides general corporate counsel to businesses.
• Aaron Duong, Associate Lawyer: A native of San Francisco, Aaron competed in international mooting before practicing in Alberta as general counsel to a range of businesses. He brings contextualized experience to bear for his clients in a wide array of situations.
• Val Blood, Legal Assistant: A relative newcomer to Canada from Yorkshire, England, Val has had a diverse career, starting out as a police constable and subsequently becoming a paralegal and a legal adviser in housing law. Before joining Breakwater Law, she owned and ran a coffee shop in Oak Bay for four years.

Family Law & Fertility Law: We support our clients through all aspects of their relationships, from beginnings to endings. We negotiate and draft agreements to match each client's unique needs and circumstances. We also represent clients in disputes, including litigation, mediation, arbitration, and mediation-arbitration.

Wills & Estates: We believe that everyone needs an estate plan, which includes at least a Will, a Power of Attorney, and a Representation Agreement. Our goal is to eliminate or reduce any questions about how your estate will be divided after your death. We also help executors get probate and deal with disputes against an estate.

Business Law: Starting a business, buying or selling a business, raising capital, adding partners or shareholders, negotiating and entering into commercial contracts - these are some of the typical activities of businesses that can often require the assistance of a lawyer.
