At Merrill Therapy Services, we understand that every individual and family is unique, and as such, every therapy session is tailored to meet their specific needs. With over 15 years of clinical experience, our team of professionals is dedicated to providing a safe, healthy, and respectful environment for our clients. Our goal is to empower individuals and families to overcome their challenges and live a more fulfilling life.

Our Approach

As a registered social worker and family mediator, I, Merrill Barber, MSW, RSW, Accredited Family Mediator, adhere to a solution-focused, collaborative, and family-centred approach when working with individuals and families. I am committed to maintaining a practice that is anti-racist, anti-oppressive, 2SLGBTQ+ friendly, and accessible to a broad range of clients. My approach is rooted in the belief that every individual has the right to a safe and healthy environment, free from discrimination and stigma.

Services

Our services are designed to address a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, emotion dysregulation, behavioral difficulties, family conflict, grief, and bereavement, trauma, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and attachment. We also provide family mediation services for families going through separation and divorce, as well as individual and family therapy.

Education and Training

I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Toronto, and am a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OASWSSW). I have also completed certification programs in cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and trauma counseling. Additionally, I have participated in various workshops and training programs, including the Advanced Parenting Coordination Family Solutions workshop and the Screening for Family Violence, Abuse, and Power Imbalances workshop.

Accomplishments

I have completed a certification program in attachment-focused adult psychotherapy with the Hincks Dellcrest Institute and The Hospital for Sick Kids. I have also completed a certification program in cognitive-behavioral therapy with the Hincks Dellcrest Institute and The Hospital for Sick Kids. Furthermore, I have completed a trauma certificate program with the Hincks Dellcrest Institute and The Hospital for Sick Kids.
