Dedication to Children. Inspiration for Families.

Monarch Child Care Society (MCCS) is a high-quality, not-for-profit, accredited out-of-school care (OSC) that is deeply committed to providing exceptional care and education to children in Kindergarten through Grade Six. Governed by parent volunteers, our organization is dedicated to building positive relationships with our children, families, and the community. Our philosophy is centered around creating a nurturing and enriched environment that fosters the development of the whole child, from their social and emotional well-being to their cognitive and physical growth.

Our Staff and Philosophy

Our qualified staff are passionate about providing a safe, engaging, and stimulating environment for our children. With almost 80 years of combined experience working in the not-for-profit child-care industry, our full-time staff members are certified as Child Development Supervisors (formerly Level 3) and have undergone rigorous security checks, child welfare checks, and training in Child Care First Aid and CPR. Moreover, each staff member is encouraged and supported to continue their professional development in the child care field, ensuring they stay up-to-date with the latest best practices and techniques. The experience and passion of our staff members create an enriching and exciting learning environment for our children, where they can develop their unique skills and talents.

Our Services

At Monarch Child Care Society, we offer a range of services that cater to the diverse needs of our children and families. Our after-school program provides care for children from Kindergarten through Grade Six during regular school hours, as well as on school in-service days and school holidays. We also offer summer care options, including weekly ($200) and daily ($50) care, for children who require care during the summer months. In addition, we provide activities, materials, and experiences that stimulate intellectual development, provide opportunities for creativity, and foster an environment of acceptance towards children, their families, language, and culture.

Our Goals and Objectives

Our primary goal is to provide a safe and inclusive environment where our children can develop healthy self-esteem and positive self-concept. We strive to broaden their physical skills through indoor and outdoor experiences, teach them how to problem-solve and resolve conflicts with others, and encourage them to learn appropriate social behaviour. For our centre, our objectives include offering activities, materials, and experiences that stimulate intellectual development, providing opportunities for creativity, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.

Fees and Operations

Our monthly fees for full-time care during the school year are as follows: Kindergarten, $848.00, and Out-of-School Care, $575.00. For the summer months, our fees for full-time care are $555 for children who are registered for care during the regular school year and $675 for those who are not registered. Additionally, we offer weekly ($200) and daily ($50) care options for the summer months. Please note that the Centre is closed on all statutory holidays.

Handbook, Forms, and Applications

Our comprehensive handbook provides detailed information about our programs, policies, and procedures. A wait list form is also available for families who wish to register their children for our care services. We are committed to providing high-quality care and education to our children, and we believe that our dedication, passion, and professionalism are the keys to our success.

Awards and Recognition

Monarch Child Care Society has received numerous awards and recognition for its commitment to excellence in child care. Our Executive Director, Ela Olszewska, won an Alberta Child Care Professional Award of Excellence in 2010, which honours child care professionals who exemplify leadership and dedication in their field.

Reviews
Positive: The daycare has friendly staff and serves good food.
Negative: The daycare prioritizes profit over families and children, and has poor operating policies.

Overall Experience

The reviews suggest that the daycare has a mixed reputation, with some reviewers having a very positive experience, while others had a very negative one.

Negative Comments

Lack of Empathy and Care

Several reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with the daycare's prioritization of profit over the well-being of families and children. They described the director as "spiteful" and the daycare as only caring about "squeezing out" money from families, including those who are fully subsidized. This lack of empathy and care led to negative experiences, including feeling forced to miss work or pay large fines for mandatory volunteer days.

Poor Operations and Closure

Reviewers also criticized the daycare's operating policies, including closures on PD days and non-school days, which they felt were inconvenient and unhelpful. This made it difficult for parents to balance work and childcare responsibilities.

Inexcusable Behaviours

One reviewer mentioned that their child learned undesirable behaviours from other children in the afterschool care, which they felt was unacceptable.

Positive Comments

Friendly Staff and Good Food

On the other hand, some reviewers praised the daycare's friendly staff and delicious food, stating that their experience was "amazing".
