Partnering to enable growth and success

Our Story

At the Community Counselling and Resource Centre (CCRC), we have been working to make life better for people living and working in Peterborough City and County since 1956. What started as a group of volunteers has grown into a thriving organization providing life-changing services to thousands of households every year.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower people and strengthen our community by offering counselling and housing support, nurturing personal growth and stability. We believe that everyone deserves access to resources and support to overcome life's challenges.

Our Core Services

We offer a range of services designed to support individuals and families in need. Our core services include:

Our History

The CCRC was formed in 1956 as the Catholic Social Service Bureau and the Volunteers and Information Peterborough agencies. In 1971, these agencies merged to form the Family Counselling Services and Volunteers and Information Peterborough. In 1998, the organization became the Community Counselling Services, and in 2001, it changed its name to the Community Counselling and Resource Centre. In 2016, the organization shortened its name to CCRC.

Our teams are made up of skilled professionals from various backgrounds who believe in social justice and the premise that transformational change is possible for anyone. Overall Assessment

The reviews for this service range from highly critical to positive, reflecting the mixed experiences of those who have used it.

Critical Review

The first review, given by Michael Archer, is extremely negative. He assigns a rating of 1 star and claims that the service is unprofessional, unresponsive, and poor value for money. He specifically mentions waiting nine months to see an unlicensed therapist for just six sessions. He concludes that the service is a waste of taxpayer money and suggests that funds would be better spent on other initiatives, such as painting lines on roads pink.

Positive Reviews

In contrast, Andrea & Michael VanDerHerberg and Sue Potter both give the service high ratings of 5 stars. They praise the organization as a valuable community partner and a great resource for finding counselors. Sue highlights the affordable cost, the variety of counselors to choose from, and the user-friendly intake procedure. Both reviewers also mention the availability of groups for specific issues, such as anger management and loss.
