Counselling Services
- Individual Counselling: People come to see Richard because they want something to change. If you have been trying to change on your own but feel frustrated, disappointed, and unsatisfied, individual counselling can provide the support and guidance you need. Together, you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and develop strategies to create the change you desire.
- Relationship Counselling: Relationships can be a significant source of joy and support, but they can also be a source of stress and tension. If your relationship has become an additional source of stress rather than a source of support, relationship counselling can help you move through the barriers that keep you feeling separate, isolated, and unsupported. Richard provides a safe and supportive space for couples to explore their challenges and work towards deeper connection and understanding.
- Somatic Experiencing: Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a naturalistic approach to resolving and healing trauma. SE is based on the observation that highly stressed animals recover from life-threatening situations through the completion of "Fight, Flight or Freeze" responses without any remaining trauma symptoms. SE practitioners seek to replicate this natural process in humans, allowing the body and nervous system to release traumatic stress and restore equilibrium.
- Traumatic Stress: Traumatic stress occurs when the nervous system is overwhelmed, and a dysfunctional neurological pattern is set in motion. This pattern tends to recreate itself, even when it has outlived its usefulness. When we are in a state of traumatic activation, we lose our ability to respond freely and flexibly in present time; instead, we react. Richard uses a trauma-informed approach that recognizes the impact of trauma on the mind, body, and spirit. With compassion and respect, he supports clients in processing and healing from traumatic experiences.
- Somatic Experiencing Touch: Many therapeutic approaches utilize touch, including massage, physiotherapy, and bodywork. Richard believes that the option to include physical touch in counselling can be a useful tool to support a healthy range of regulation and stability in the nervous system and other body systems. He offers SE Touch sessions that incorporate consent-based, mindful touch to support the healing and integration of traumatic stress.
- Psychedelic Support & Integration: Although Richard does not provide psychedelic substances, he does provide support to people who are contemplating using these substances or have used them and would like support to process and integrate their experiences. Richard believes that psychedelics have the potential to be powerful tools for healing and growth when used responsibly and with proper preparation and integration.
At Richard Nevin's Counselling Practice, we are committed to providing high-quality counselling services that are grounded in compassion, respect, and evidence-based practices. We believe that each person has the capacity for growth, healing, and transformation, and we are dedicated to supporting our clients on their journey towards fullness, clarity, and love.
