At Dr. Nicky Cohen Clinical Psychologist, we are dedicated to providing compassionate and empirically supported counselling services for parents in the areas of infant, toddler, and preschooler sleep disturbances. Our clinical psychologist, Dr. Nicky Cohen, is a registered member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario with extensive experience in treating mood and anxiety disorders, including depression, social anxiety, phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, in adults.

Our Services

We offer comprehensive counselling services for parents, including bedtime problems, night wakings, daytime sleep difficulties, early morning awakenings, and sleep (night) terrors. Our approach is based on empirically supported behavioural interventions, including "sleep training" (graduated extinction) and positive bedtime routines. Our services may be covered by Extended Health Care Benefit Plans.

Our consultations typically consist of two appointments: an assessment and the development of a treatment plan. Each appointment can be up to 2-2.5 hours, depending on the complexity of the issue. We use a collaborative approach, taking into consideration the presenting problems, factors that are believed to be contributing to the maintenance of the problems, parents' tolerance for what they feel comfortable with, and their description of their child's temperament.

In addition to our counselling services, we also offer follow-up consultations to answer questions and provide additional support. We understand that every family's needs are unique, and we strive to provide personalized and effective solutions to help parents overcome sleep disturbances and promote healthy sleep habits in their children.
