James Child Care Inc. has been a cornerstone of Winnipeg's Fort Garry area since 1981. Our humble beginnings at 1226 Waller Avenue have grown and expanded to meet the needs of our burgeoning community. Today, we proudly operate two locations: a preschool site at 3 Marshall Crescent and a school-aged program catering to children attending Ralph Maybank, Ecole Crane, and Viscount Alexander Elementary Schools.
Our Philosophy
At James Child Care Inc., we believe that a child's work is play, and that learning social skills are the building blocks for success. Our centres take a play-based approach, recognizing the importance of exploration, creativity, and curiosity in young minds. We also prioritize diversity and inclusivity, believing that a diverse and inclusive program fosters growth, learning, and creativity in both our staff and children.
Our Governance
James Child Care Inc. is a government-funded non-profit child care centre governed by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of past and present families. Our Board meets monthly, excluding the summer months, and families are encouraged to speak with our Executive Director, Marilyn, regarding Board positions and responsibilities.
Our Services
We offer care for children between 2-5 years of age at our preschool location, with space for 32 children. Our school-aged program provides care for 40 children attending Ralph Maybank, Ecole Crane, and Viscount Alexander Elementary Schools. We also offer hot meal lunches on Fridays through our School-Aged program and fundraising initiatives to support our centre.
Fundraising and Support
As a funded facility, we rely heavily on the generosity of our community and parents to support our programming and operations. We gratefully accept direct donations via cash, cheque, or e-transfer, and appreciate donations of gently used materials such as clothes, toys, books, and art supplies. From time to time, we post notices in our centres asking for specific items. We also host term and ongoing fundraisers, where families can participate and show their support.
